can take Dead Cow Canyon road out of Grants behind the is
a small RV park, Blue Spruce off of 53 to Zuni Canyon
Road. Up to Post Office Flats or Deiner Canyon. Blue Water
Creek has some decent spots. All depends on what you are
driving and your appetite for adventure. I have taken a
rental car all the way up to mount Sedgewick but roads are
dirt for the most part and condition depends on how much
rain. Use to live in La Jara which is a small area of land
inside the Cibola National Forest.
Wow, thanks Christopher. Your suggestions have given me some great ideas for tomorrow and future excursions into the Zunis. I’d welcome any more suggestions, including camping. ‘Tho we’ll continue going into the Jemez area (and passing through La Jara), we look forward to expanding our exploring, hiking, and camping.
Friends took us to one of the mines, not far off of 53, back in 2016. I’ve been keeping a BLOG of our hiking etc. since 2010, and the post for that visit is https://nmhiking.com/bonita-canyon-flourite-mine-expedition-6132016/.
Happy wandering.
cheers,
george
